International students who intend to pursue a master’s degree at the Lausanne University Scholarships (UNIL) in Switzerland and have exceptional academic records are eligible to apply for Master’s Scholarships.

Lausanne University Scholarships for Master Students

International students with exceptional academic records who want to pursue a master’s degree at the University of Lausanne (UNIL) can apply for the esteemed University of Lausanne Scholarships. By offering financial support for living expenses and tuition, these scholarships—also known as UNIL Master’s Grants—hope to draw gifted people from all over the world. The scholarships allow beneficiaries to concentrate on their studies and actively participate in the active academic community at UNIL. They are intended to support academic excellence and cultural diversity.

Benefits of the Lausanne University Scholarships

Lausanne University Scholarships is awarded for the minimum legally required time frame of the student’s selected program. For the whole course of the master’s program—one and a half years or two years, depending on the chosen master’s—it amounts to CHF 1,600 per month from September 15 to July 15 (or 10 months a year), except for cases of decisive failure after the first year. Scholarship recipients will not be required to pay the course’s fixed registration fees. However, they will still be required to pay a CHF 80.00 fee per semester.

Applicants are informed that the amount of the scholarship awarded does not cover living expenses in Switzerland. The scholarship is not fully funded.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidate eligibility for the Lausanne University Scholarships Master’s Scholarship requires fulfillment of the following requirements:

Outstanding Academic Performance:

Excellent academic standing is a requirement for candidates. Applicant grades are expected to be exceptionally high, even if country-specific requirements are not specified.

Certification from a Foreign University:

A foreign university degree is a requirement for applicants.
Applicants are not eligible if they are in their preparatory year or if they have already begun their master’s program at UNIL.

Restrictions:

Applications for the Master Scholarship are accepted at any age.

Language Fluency:

A minimal linguistic competence of C1 in French is advised for master’s programs offered in that language.
An English language proficiency of at least C1 is advised for master’s programs that are taught in the language.

Documents/Material Required to Apply

Candidates need to put together a thorough application bundle that includes:

  • Application: Fill out the application completely and sign it.
  • Motivation Letter: Write a letter outlining the reasons behind your program of choice and how it fits with your professional objectives.
  • CV, or curriculum vitae: a comprehensive resume that highlights professional experience, academic accomplishments, and other pertinent data.
  • Academic Transcripts: Attested copies of transcripts and qualifications from universities.
  • Secondary School Diploma: A copy of the secondary school diploma is provided.
  • Copy of Passport: A copy of your identity card or passport.
  • Recommendation Letters: Two authentic recommendation letters from academic instructors.

Deadline

For the academic year 2024–2025, the UNIL Masters Grants online application is now closed. For the academic year 2025–2026—the online application will be available from September 2024 up to November 1, 2024, November 1st is the deadline for submitting an online application and mailing certified copies, if necessary.

Application Procedure

Lausanne University Scholarships for Master’s Scholarship application process fulfills two functions: it applies for admission to the selected master’s program and the scholarship. This implies that candidates do not need to submit a separate application to UNIL’s Admission Office (SII).

Online Application:

Applicants must submit a completed application in PDF format by uploading it online. Email applications and incomplete applications will not be accepted.

For Specific Candidates, Certified Copies:

If the university where you earned your bachelor’s degree is located in a nation that has not ratified the Lisbon Recognition Convention, you must submit official copies of your transcripts. These duplicates need to be sent straight from your university in a sealed envelope and certified by your institution.

Participants in the Lisbon Convention Nations: You are exempt from mailing certified copies of your bachelor’s degree if it was earned at a university in a nation that has ratified the Lisbon Recognition Convention.
